In my last post I was working on this floor mat with a mandala doodle design. It’s always rewarding to see the mat in the area for which it was designed and witness the client’s ecstatic faces. Best part of my job.

February 15, 2016Art Deco Mat Delivered
September 23, 2014In my last blog I wrote about painting and researching this beautiful art deco floor mat. Not only does the shape add protection from liquid and food to the hardwood beneath but the colors and design really brighten this dark kitchen. Add some purple/red towels and kitchen ornaments and you have a match made in art deco heaven.
Framing a table
June 6, 2014I love creating mats that go under tables because I can frame the table perfectly. Tables are usually viewed with the chairs pushed in which provides a great opportunity to frame the table and provide an overall aesthetic view – table and mat working together as one. Case in point, the attached mat is framed by beautiful, colorful, square patterns divided by black lines that match the chairs and kitchen cabinets (not shown). The floor mat’s faux brown background compliments the base floor color perfectly. Using the same patterns as detailed highlights, I designed a small digitally printed floor mat that was placed in the kitchen at a doorway.
Black Diamonds
November 20, 2013This brilliant black diamond kitchen runner is one of the longest floor mat’s I’ve ever produced at 17 feet long. The simple black and white design adds a lot of style to this newly remodeled kitchen. A side area was added to the kitchen and an additional small diamond mat helped unit the rooms (picture 2). Just goes to show that floor mats can add function and style to any room.
Modern Dandelions
August 15, 2013A client loved this popular, 1950s, now contemporary, fabric design and wanted it displayed on a mat in her kitchen. This is a good example of how an element of personal home decor could be incorporated into the floor on a mat. Imagine how your wallpaper, tile or fabric would look. It was fun to paint but hard to install this very large 12′ x 10′ floor mat.

May 17, 2013Hand painted to Digitally printed
April 2, 2013Most of the designs in my digitally printed collection which appear on my website, started out as hand painted mats. The below Rose mat is a perfect example. This mat was recently ordered under the large category. The design was created 10 years ago and was one of my first hand painted mats. It translates beautifully digitally. Old school technique meets new school technology.
Final Mat, Plate Perfect
February 22, 2013In my last blog, I wrote about being commissioned to transfer a scatter-print dutch flower design that was on a plate and create it on a floor mat. Below is the finished product. Creating a stencil of the flower worked perfectly – for all 242 flowers. The client was pleased and so am I. It just goes to show that any design, whether it be on a plate, fabric, wallpaper, etc., can transfer to create an incredible floor mat.
From Plate to Floor
January 28, 2013New year, new project. Often when I meet with a client they have no idea about their mat’s design, but sometimes they do. This client would like me to transfer the concept of the dutch artwork from a plate to a 66″ x 60″ floor mat. I love these challenges. In this case, the task is fairly easy – create a stencil of the flower and apply in a scatter print pattern. Below is the plate and my computer sketch. The computer sketch does not show the colors very accurately but paint will be chosen to match the plate directly. Next… paint.
