Curly Vine

October 5, 2016

When a client falls in love with a design created strictly for my digitally printed collection and the size needed is too large to digitally print, what do you do? Paint it! This was a test of my painting skills for sure but the design was also one of my favorites so I was happy to give it a shot. From computer to floor using human translation, the mat came alive before my eyes, paint stroke by paint stoke.

Framing a table

June 6, 2014

I love creating mats that go under tables because I can frame the table perfectly. Tables are usually viewed with the chairs pushed in which provides a great opportunity to frame the table and provide an overall aesthetic view – table and mat working together as one. Case in point, the attached mat is framed by beautiful, colorful, square patterns divided by black lines that match the chairs and kitchen cabinets (not shown). The floor mat’s faux brown background compliments the base floor color perfectly. Using the same patterns as detailed highlights, I designed a small digitally printed floor mat that was placed in the kitchen at a  doorway.

Trendsetting Floor Mats

April 2, 2012

I’ve been reading that a trend in home interiors are graphic prints. I’m smiling because Studio K floor mats display the cleanest most colorful graphic prints. Not only can colors in the graphics change easily to match home interiors, but any personal decor graphic element can be printed to match a couch pillow or wallpaper pattern. Nothing could be more trendy or versatile than personal decor on the floor, the ultimate statement in graphic prints for home interiors.

Rug vs Mat

September 27, 2011

This client loved the design of the rug in her kitchen but wasn’t loving how it functioned. Solution—photograph the rug and turn it into a mat. This was an unique idea that worked beautifully. Digital printing gives a whole new meaning to “anything goes”. In this case, the client was happy that I pulled the rug out from under her.

Fido for Father’s Day

June 17, 2011

This mat goes to the dogs, but Fido is pretty happy about it. A client provided the image of their faithful pet and a mat was created just in time for Father’s Day.

Digitally Beautiful

May 19, 2011

This digitally printed mat was designed for a friend who lives in Taos, New Mexico. I love this pattern, it printed beautifully digitally and looks great in her Adobe home. I can print any image on a mat as long as it fits within a 4’x8′ size restraint and invite the idea of printing personal artwork, photographs and even children’s art as the ultimate floor mat. How cool would it be to have your personal or child’s artwork as a runner down your hallway?

Artist Series

May 2, 2011

Ever since I’ve had the capability of printing mats digitally I’ve wanted to create an artist series where I could offer floor mat collections from artist I’ve known and liked. The Eric Martin Collection utilizes a traditional pen and ink crosshatch style to depict interesting places and characters that have their own unique stories. These illustrations give a “fly on the wall” observation of human nature. They are beautifully detailed, witty originals. These aren’t  just floor mats – they are floor art! Like the Wine Country Collection they are 22″x30″ and are now on my website at www.studiokfloormats.com.

Wine Country Collection

April 18, 2011

Living in the wine country, I wanted to create a collection of digitally printed under-the-sink mats designed in a non-typical cliché wine and grape style – something a local would want as well as a tourist. These brilliant contemporary designs cater to a hip, trendy wine enthusiast. I am offering them to stores and tasting rooms in the area as an unique wine country memento. If you’re interested in one, check them out on my website at www.studiokfloormats.com.

Bath Mat goes digital

November 17, 2010

This Retro tile design is all the fashion again adding a hip addition and focal point to the bathroom. Printed digitally, the colors in the mock tiles matched perfectly to the adjacent shower. It is a great example of a digitally printed floor mat. I’m doing more and more digital; printing photos, personal artwork, logos and even kid’s drawings, all of which are incredible when displayed on the floor. The image flexibility of digital opens up new possibilities in the art of floor mats.

Small works…

January 22, 2010

This is one of my favorite small mats. The client had installed this beautiful hand painted Spanish tile in the back splash. I couldn’t resist repeating it on the floor – hand painting it into the mat. The result: a beautiful cohesive component that helped bring focus to the back splash tiles. Below the picture is a sample of a digitally printed version I offer on my website.
