Curly Vine

October 5, 2016

When a client falls in love with a design created strictly for my digitally printed collection and the size needed is too large to digitally print, what do you do? Paint it! This was a test of my painting skills for sure but the design was also one of my favorites so I was happy to give it a shot. From computer to floor using human translation, the mat came alive before my eyes, paint stroke by paint stoke.

Shabby Chic

August 24, 2016

Using a simple checkered interior and a French provincial stenciled border, this mat adds style from the floor up to a Shabby Chic kitchen. A simple design sometimes is best and is all that is needed to help stylize a room.

Henna for the floor

February 15, 2016

In my last post I was working on this floor mat with a mandala doodle design. It’s always rewarding to see the mat in the area for which it was designed and witness the client’s ecstatic faces. Best part of my job.

First Floor Mat of 2016

January 19, 2016

It’s always great to start a year with a fun project and this one has turned out to be a favorite. The goal was to cover a kitchen floor and the client had an idea of a mandala design. I loved the concept and produced a mandala doodle incorporating the grays of the backsplash tile and the green teal of the door with a dark faux background marrying into the floor. The result is like henna on the floor. Stay turned for the finished product in the home, delivering in February.

Mat Re-do

February 17, 2015

A client wasn’t very thoughtful when creating an art project and spilled tonic glue on the beautiful dinning room mat I had created especially for her interior. She loved her mat so much that she recommissioned me to produce another. This is a nice testimonial on how much my clients love their mats. Almost finished. (inset.. prior mat and work in progress).

Glamour’s Golden Age

September 9, 2014

I just finished working on this “U” shaped art deco mat. For most mats I design I do a little research. I usually learn a lot. For instance I learned that most art deco designs reflect it’s industrial age with a combination of sharp geometric shapes and rounded edges with metallic finishes. There is a playful, graphic, modern sophistication to the style. I enjoyed stepping back in time to paint this mat. Stay tuned for the finish piece.

Finally Indoor/Outdoor Floor Mats

April 21, 2014

One of the most common floor mat questions I get is “can these go outside?” Finally I can answer yes. I now am able produce indoor/outdoor digitally printed floor mats. These mats are printed on backside where the graphics are seen through the material. This vinyl flooring is durable and comes in multiple non-slip textures. The only downfall is they can be expensive and the size is limited to 4’x8′. The below image is a mat I produced for a graphic design client for whom I designed their logo. It’s a perfect solution for the entry of their little cafe to carry on their brand.

Black Diamonds

November 20, 2013

This brilliant black diamond kitchen runner is one of the longest floor mat’s I’ve ever produced at 17 feet long. The simple black and white design adds a lot of style to this newly remodeled kitchen. A side area was added to the kitchen and an additional small diamond mat helped unit the rooms (picture 2). Just goes to show that floor mats can add function and style to any room.

Happy New Year!

January 3, 2013

I stepped into the new year on a New Year’s floor mat I created especially as a dance floor for a black and white themed New Year’s Eve party I was hosting. Armed with just black Sharpie pens and my imagination I drew this festive doodle. I started by creating shoes (also below) which then inspired the mat. I was having so much fun I wondered what else I could draw on… a plate… a wall… a hat… it was hard to stop. I now have a whole new appreciation for the graffiti artist.

Strawberries Delivered

June 13, 2012

Finally the revisited strawberry mats have been finished and delivered. As you may remember from my last blog I was hired to create new strawberry mats to replace a strawberry mat I designed 8 years ago. They loved the colors and theme but were ready for something different. Instead of one large mat the mat was broken into two smaller mats covering the same basic area. Another mat was added for the laundry room. The outcome, a playful, welcoming, colorful floor display.
