Mat Re-do

February 17, 2015

A client wasn’t very thoughtful when creating an art project and spilled tonic glue on the beautiful dinning room mat I had created especially for her interior. She loved her mat so much that she recommissioned me to produce another. This is a nice testimonial on how much my clients love their mats. Almost finished. (inset.. prior mat and work in progress).

Something old is new again

May 8, 2014

I recently finished two mats for a home that was built in the mid-1800’s. The owner had made major renovations in a way that kept the integrity and style of the old era but with an added contemporary twist. One mat was created for the kitchen to cover a floor that had had water damage and was designed to resemble a simple vintage linoleum floor with inlay. The client’s idea was to have it compliment the antique stove. The second mat’s design was plucked from my digitally printed collection called “Elegance” and color changes worked nicely in the classic upstairs guest bath. It was a privilege to see this house and to have the client’s floor mat ideas materialize.

From Plate to Floor

January 28, 2013

New year, new project. Often when I meet with a client they have no idea about their mat’s design, but sometimes they do. This client would like me to transfer the concept of the dutch artwork from a plate to a 66″ x 60″ floor mat. I love these challenges. In this case, the task is fairly easy – create a stencil of the flower and apply in a scatter print pattern. Below is the plate and my computer sketch. The computer sketch does not show the colors very accurately but paint will be chosen to match the plate directly.  Next… paint.

Something for Everyone

February 7, 2012

One of the things I enjoy about being a floor mat designer is that I design mats for not only the room in which they will be placed but the personality of the client. This mat is a perfect example. It was designed more for the person than the room, matching the bright, colorful personality of the client. I applaud her creative individuality.
