First Floor Mat of 2016

January 19, 2016

It’s always great to start a year with a fun project and this one has turned out to be a favorite. The goal was to cover a kitchen floor and the client had an idea of a mandala design. I loved the concept and produced a mandala doodle incorporating the grays of the backsplash tile and the green teal of the door with a dark faux background marrying into the floor. The result is like henna on the floor. Stay turned for the finished product in the home, delivering in February.

Framing a table

June 6, 2014

I love creating mats that go under tables because I can frame the table perfectly. Tables are usually viewed with the chairs pushed in which provides a great opportunity to frame the table and provide an overall aesthetic view – table and mat working together as one. Case in point, the attached mat is framed by beautiful, colorful, square patterns divided by black lines that match the chairs and kitchen cabinets (not shown). The floor mat’s faux brown background compliments the base floor color perfectly. Using the same patterns as detailed highlights, I designed a small digitally printed floor mat that was placed in the kitchen at a  doorway.

Show Time

March 12, 2013

I only attend two home shows a year, Spring and Fall, and they are both located in Santa Rosa, California at the Sonoma County Fairground. The show starts this Friday the 15th around noon and ends Sunday the 17th at 6:00 pm. This is really the only time I meet and greet people publicly and discuss floor mats. So stop by my booth and say “hi”. There will be over 400 other booths with all types professionals from landscapers to roofers. It’s a great opportunity to get anwsers on all your home improvement questions. To learn more about the Home & Garden Show visit http://www.scshows.com.SCHSlogo_color

Strawberries revised

May 4, 2012

The below image is a mat I did 8 years ago. I recently received a call from the client who loves their mat but is ready for a redesign. The challenge is they still would like strawberries and the same colors in the design. They also want the mat divided in two and an additional mat for the laundry room. I came up with a great new design that they loved. The second image is a preview of the start of that design, stay tuned to see the finished, fully designed mats.

Digitally Beautiful

May 19, 2011

This digitally printed mat was designed for a friend who lives in Taos, New Mexico. I love this pattern, it printed beautifully digitally and looks great in her Adobe home. I can print any image on a mat as long as it fits within a 4’x8′ size restraint and invite the idea of printing personal artwork, photographs and even children’s art as the ultimate floor mat. How cool would it be to have your personal or child’s artwork as a runner down your hallway?

My very first mat…

November 7, 2009

Below is the first mat I ever painted. It was for my kitchen. What I love about mats is that I can take elements of the room and put them in the floor. For instance, look at the tile back splash border element and counter colors and how they appear in the mat. I can totally transform a room from the floor up – take a look at the before and after images. That’s a lot of black and white checkers. Instead of trying to make a rug work in your room, you can make your room work in your mat. It really changed my kitchen adding a cohesive component to the overall style. This mat is 9 years going strong.
